Extract, Transform and Load

Extract, Transform and Load: (ETL), a process that is used to move information from an operational data system or Online Transaction Processing System to a Data Warehouse or another operations system; this process involves Extracting or copying data, Transforming the format, coding or structure to meet the requirements of the target system, and Loading the data into the target system. This process may be continuous (with a message queue) or periodic; the timing for periodic updates may range from multiple times per day to monthly or quarterly.
