Poly Vinyl Chloride
(PVC), a thermoplastic polymer used for many purposes including cable insulation and building materials. The plasticized form of PVC used for cable insulation forms toxic smoke when burned, leaded PCV cable jackets breakdown and produce lead dust, and there are environmental concerns about other forms of PVC as well.
