- Single Mode Fiber
- or Single Mode Optical Fiber (SMF), a type of optical fiber designed to carry only a single ray of light (mode) in the 1310 nm or 1550 nm transmission window that is capable of supporting high bandwidth applications and distances in the hundreds of kilometers. Singlemode fibers are typically used in long-distance telephony and cable TV applications while Multi-Mode Fiber is used for most in-building applications.
