Switched Digital Video

Switched Digital Video
(SDV), techniques for efficiently distributing digital video via a network infrastructure with limited capacity. In hybrid fiber coax networks the all channels are delivered to the fiber optic node which dynamically assigns channels on the coax portion of the network based on user requests, thus makes more efficient use of the limit number of coax channels by only transmitting channels that are being watched. IPTV and other IP based video services may use unicast or multicast streaming media protocols such as RTSP.
